Hi all, I was brought up to believe Lent ended at noon on Holy Saturday.  Don’t know if it is really true, but since Jesus was buried on Fri and Rises on Sunday, Saturday being a Holy day in the Jewish tradition, it makes sense.

REFLECTION:  THOUGHTS FROM POPE FRANCIS;  HOLY SATURDAY  “We must not be afraid of solidarity; rather let us make all we have and are available to God.”  PRAY for all of our families and communities, that we might be the light of the Risen Christ in the world.r

Your RICE BOWL  If you are Catholic, put the money you saved in an envelope, mark it Rice Bowl and put it in the collection plate.  If you are not Catholic, but save the money for the poor,  go on line and find the address for CRS, Catholic Relief Services and send a check to them.   God bless you for anything you can do for the poor of the world, including the U.S.

PRAYERS:   The whole earth is at rest and quiet; they break forth into singing.  Isaiah 14:7

A peculiar quietness fills the air today.  You hung your head and gave up your spirit, Christ Jesus.  Still, a peculiar excitement fills the air, too.  My Lord and my God, I wait with bated breath for your resurrection!  Amen.

IT IS THE WATER:  Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?  Romans 6:3

It is the water from the Jordan through which the people and the Ark of the Covenant passed to enter into the Promised Land.  It is the water that flowed from the Temple, becoming deeper and deeper.  It is the water with which you yourself were baptized by John.  It is the water that became wine at Cana.  It is the healing water of the pool of Bethesda.  It is the water with which you washed your disciples’ feet.

Yes, Lord, the water flowing from your side is all of this, but much more than this too because it is the water by which you give us your innermost self and make us part of your communion with your Father;  it is the water that becomes a spring in us welling up for eternal life.

Dear Jesus, cleanse my soul with your life-giving water.

Lent, Holy Saturday, the most important week of the Christian Year,  Easter, the most important day.
