I intended to finish the month of May with this but missed Fri. Night, so will do it tonight because it is so important.
WHEN, IN THE WOMB OF THEIR MOTHERS, JOHN THE VOICE AND JESUS THE WORD MET, THE WOMEN RAISED THEIR OWN VOICES IN PRAISE. ELIZABETH PRAISED MARY AND HER CHILD; MARY TURNED THE JOY OF THEM BOTH INTO A HYMN OF PRAISE TO GOD.
Unlike a simple visit, a visitation is different owing to the purpose intended by the get-together. A visitation aims to accomplish something. Specifically, a visitation is an encounter that carries within it a meaning that is exceptional. In the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that meaning is not a “message” but rather the exceptional presence of the Son she carries within her womb. We can be certain that the mystery of the VISITATION is effective in our life if we do now, before Jesus is born, what Christ will command us to do as he dies: “BEHOLD YOUR MOTHER” (Magnificat)
PRAYER; O GOD, you sent the Blessed Virgin Mary to visit her cousin Elizabeth and to share with her the joy of your Son’s coming. Give us the will to do your will, that we may glorify you with her for all eternity, through Christ our Lord. Amen (Magnificat)
Almighty ever-living God, who, while the Blessed Virgin Mary was carrying your Son in her womb, inspired her to visit Elizabeth, grant us, we pray, that, faithful to the promptings of the Spirit, we may magnify your greatness with the Virgin Mary at all times. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. (from the Catholic Mass of May 31)
