TEN MINUTES TO LEARN ABOUT THE HOLY TRINITY: “In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit”
In defense of the doctrine of the Holy Trinity, the Universal Church proclaimed (this reality) at the fourth Lateran Council in(the year) 1215. THE WORD “TRINITY” in not found in Sacred Scripture, yet the Triune nature of God was hidden in the Holy Spirit inspired writings of the Old Testament and revealed to the Apostles by Jesus Christ in the New Testament when, after His Resurrection and before His Ascension, Jesus instructed His disciples the baptize believers using the Trinitarian formula: JESUS CAME UP AND SPOKE TO THEM. HE SAID, “ALL AUTHORITY IN HEAVEN AND ON EARTH HAS BEEN GIVEN TO ME. GO THEREFORE, MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS; BAPTIZE THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, AND TEACH THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THE COMMANDS I GAVE YOU” (Mt 28:18-19)
Note: On June 15 the Catholic Church celebrates THE MOST HOLY TRINITY. Above is an explanation of why we celebrate The Most Holy Trinity right after we celebrate Pentecost Sunday when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and inspired them to go and preach The Gospel.
From our Pastor, Fr. Joseph: The feast that we celebrate on Sun, The Most Holy Trinity, is essential to our Christian faith, and at the same time extremely difficult to understand. Many times I have been asked, is it one god in three persons or three gods in one person? My answer is instead of trying to explain this mystery, we are meant to experience and live it. Let me explain what I mean.
We speak of God as father, Jesus referred to God in this way, which shows that He has a very intimate relationship with God. He had a strong belief that He was sent by God, served His God, and was loved, guided and cared for by His God. We can ask ourselves, what is my relationship with God, intimate, distant or some where between? The God that we call Father is also known as the creator. I marvel at the change of seasons with the beauty and power that they reveal. The God who creates made me in his image. As is written in the psalms, I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
The Word of God takes our flesh, and becomes as we are except for sin. I invite you to read again the accounts of Jesus ministry, and imagine how he continues to change our lives. I invite you as well to let the breath of God, The Holy Spirit, continue to bring you gifts as you are both taught and comforted by God.
As you continue your walk of faith, may your experience of this mystery continue to deepen.
PRAYER; IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT, AMEN. (this is the most powerful prayer we will every pray) ALSO: GLORY BE TO THE FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT, AS IT WAS IN THE BEGINNING, IS NOW, AND WILL BE, AMEN.
