Oh, my servant true,
You are very weary-
I was weary too;
But that toil shall make you
Some day all my own–
And the end of sorrow
Shall be near my throne.
(Hymn, no author.)

Who, then is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household to distribute to them their food at the proper time? (Mt 24:45)

The Lord is most extravagant in his love for us, his sometimes most unreliable servants. How foolish to give our liver–our time, our attention, our obedience–to mere idols who can love no one. Martha was rebuked not for her work but for allowing her work to make her lose sight of love.

PRAYER: O LORD OUR GOD, you have called all those who bear the name of your son to serve one another and the world around us by the works of faith and love. By the intercession of Saint Martha, renew our zeal for the tasks you have given us, that we may serve the coming of your kingdom, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

(Sorry I have missed some days, the internet has been unreliable here at times) Hopefully better in a couple weeks.
