THERE IS NO TRY, CONT’D

Last night I left off with this line…It’s important to our own sanity and serenity that we make our decisions and pick our actions based on VALUES AND PRINCIPLES and that we affiliate ourselves with others who share those values and principles.

“FAKING” it by making choices based on interests then affiliating with others who make the same choices and then fabricating values or principles to rationalize our choices corrodes our integrity and self-esteem.  Worse yet, rationalizing means we’ll continue saying things we don’t believe and concocting explanations FOR HOW WE’VE ‘EVOLVED’ on issues. Worst of all, we have to know “I wouldn’t want me for a friend.

Individually and collectively, common decency demands we behave consistently and dependably.  I’d like to believe JOHN KENNEDY DIDN’T FIRST TAKE A POLL AND CONVENE A SERIES OF PHARMACEUTICALLY ENHANCED MEETINGS IN SOME FACULTY LOUNGE AND THEORIZE ABOUT THE RELATIVE COSTS AND REWARDS WHEN HE SAID:  “LET EVERY NATION KNOW, WHETHER IT WISHES US WELL OR ILL, THAT WE SHALL PAY ANY PRICE, BEAR AND BURDEN, MEET ANY HARDSHIP, SUPPORT ANY FRIEND, OPPOSE ANY FOE TO ASSURE THE SURVIVAL AND SUCCESS OF LIBERTY.”

He didn’t say we’d “TRY” until we ran out of enthusiasm or the pools changed.  He didn’t say we’d try for a year or two but if it didn’t go our way, we’d curl up, come home, and suck our thumbs.

Few, if any, of us participate in such weighty choices but our individual choices are equally important to those around us.  We have made commitments and have responsibilities for ourselves and others who depend on us.  It may be as simple as choosing to pay the rent rather than get a new tattoo or it may be as complex as declining an “innocent” drink-after-work proposition.  IF WE’RE STOPPING TO CONCOCT A RATIONALIZATION OR PONDERING WHETHER WE’LL GET CAUGHT, THEN WE’RE MAKING BAD DECISIONS AND IT’S TIME TO SWITCH FROM INTERESTS TO VALUES AND PRINCIPLES.  Having failed isn’t a reason to give up: TRYING ISN’T AN OPTION.

SIMPLY PUT, WE CAN’T CHANGE ANYONE ELSE, BUT IF WE HAVE FORGOTTEN OUR PRINCIPLES AND VALUES, AND MORALS, THEN IT IS TIME TO RETHINK HOW WE ARE LIVING AND CHANGE OUR SELVES. We, each of us, need to stop agreeing to things we know are wrong, and even evil, and put our foot down and say, this is not right or maybe even, this is a SIN.  REMEMBER, IF EACH ONE OF US STANDS UP FOR WHAT WE TRULY BELIEVE, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS WORLD.  We can also make sure our children know the difference between what is truly right and truly wrong.   THE ONLY WAY FOR EVIL TO TRIUMP IS FOR GOOD TO DO NOTHING.

THERE IS NO TRY!

This was a letter to the editor in “The Eastern Gazette” by Ken Frederc

“Try not. Do or do not. There is no Try.”  Yoda.  “Never give in-never,never….in nothing great or small….never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.  Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.” Winston Churchill.

YODA WAS TELLIN LUKE WHAT CHURCHILL TOLD HARROW.  ONCE IT WAS THE CASE THAT I BELIEVED MY COUNTRY (AND MY COUNTRY MEN) adhered to a set of PRINCIPLES AND VALUES that didn’t change based on context.  I believed in right and wrong and had confidence people and institutions would not openly commit and condone wrongdoing. TODAY, I CAN’T THINK OF A SINGLE THING WE STAND FOR OR AGAINST;  We act individually and collectively OUR OF INTEREST, NOT PRINCIPLE.

How we see right and wrong, acceptable and unacceptable, admirable and deplorable should reflect our principles and values not our interests.  We shouldn’t need to know whether we’ll be exempted or subsidized before we decide where we stand on mandatory health insurance.  We shouldn’t need to know the skin colors before we conclude the police ‘acted stupidly’. We shouldn’t need to know whether it was from a single mom’s purse or a Wal-Mart cash register before we deplore a theft.  We shouldn’t need to know what the polls say before we condemn and act to prevent genocide, terrorism, or international aggression.  WITHOUTH HAVING VALUES AND PRINCIPLES FIRMLY IN PLACE, we continually find ourselves debating the relative grayness of things and concocting ever more transparent and absurd arguments to support a position we’ve taken or rationalize what we’ve done or not done.  In the extreme, we’ll oppose and idea simply because it came from the’other side’and we’ll demonize and disparage others just because they’re not “us”. Most of all, in our actions, we should not need to be assured easy success and overwhelming affirmation to act in the PRESERVATION OF OUR VALUES AND PRINCIPLES.

AS A NATION, we’ve tried and failed to prevent genocide and spread representative government.  AT HOME we’ve triad and failed to eradicate poverty, racism, crime and drug abuse.  In our individual lives we’ve failed in relationships, jobs,…..The examples of our collective and personal failures would fill pages and every one of those failures should make us wiser and strengthen our resolve.  Those failures show us that what we’ve been doing either doesn’t work or that, like keeping the dandelions of the lawn, that what we’re doing will never be ‘done’.   It’s important to our own sanity and serenity that we make our decisions and pick our actions based on values and principles and that we affiliate our selves with others who share those values and principles.

PRAYER FOR THE INTERCESSION OF SAINT JOHN PAUL II

O BLESED TRINITY, WE THANK YOU for having graced the Church with Saint John Paul II and for allowing the tenderness of your fatherly care, the glory of the Cross of Christ and the splendor of the Spirit of love to shine through him

Trusting fully in your infinite mercy and in the maternal intercession of Mary, he has given us a living image of Jesus the Good Shepherd.  He has shown us that holiness is the necessary measure of ordinary Christian life and is the way of achieving eternal communion with you.  Grant us, by his intercession, and according to your will, the graces we implore, through Christ our Lord. Amen. (by Donald Cardinal WUERL, Archbishop of Wash.)

I just found this prayer today.  Asking for Saint John Paul and Mary’s intercession, means they are adding their prayers to ours when we ask Jesus for graces and help that we need.

GOD SPEAKS TO HIS PEOPLE-HOW CAN YOU SEE AND NOT BELIEVE?

THE FATHER ALMIGHTY, MAKER OF HEAVEN AND EARTH, OF ALL THINGS VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE.

IN THE ENCYCLICAL “LUMEN FIDEI,” POPE FRANCIS SAYS THAT THE OPPOSITE OF FAITH IS IDOLATRY.

The Book of Wisdom laments those who “search busily among (GOD’S) works but are distracted by what they see because the things seen are fair…If they so far succeeded in knowledge that they could speculate about the world, how did they not more quickly find its Lord?”  (see the book of Wisdom 13:7-9)(I realize most Protestant bibles for some unknown reason do not carry the Book of Wisdom, one of the most important books in the Bible, however, I assume it is available on line somewhere, for those that are interested.)

Before even professing belief in Jesus, the Church proclaims that the very existence of the things we see speak to us of God.  Since nothing we see has made itself, just a little bit of faithfulness to our human curiosity leads us to wonder who made these things.  To stop at what I see and seek no further not only ignores God, but also my own human nature.

And not only the things that I can see, but also the things that are invisible which are part of my daily experience.  In a confirmation class, one student was amazed when she realized that her very soul, that reality that she calls “I” is in fact not visible.  She volunteered that her body, her face, physically expresses aspects of this “I”, but the “I” is so much more than the visible body can express.

When she realized this, her face did in fact show a wondrous joy that pointed to something much more profound, much more beyond…she was beginning to find her way to the ONE who makes her invisible, but very real, self.

PRAYER:  OUR FATHER WHO ART IN HEAVEN, hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil. Amen.

SAYING BLESS YOU IN SCHOOL IS NOW A CRIME?

DID YOU KNOW THERE ARE 5 STEPS TO PERSECUTION?  MOST PEOPLE THINK WE ARE IN THE 4TH STEP, USING RELIGIOUS TERM IS AGAINST THE LAW?

IN TENNESSEE A YOUNG WOMAN IS PUNISHED BECAUSE WHEN A FRIEND sneezed she said to her friend, “Bless you!” She didn’t even mention God.     Would you call this Persecution?  I would.

Have you done anything about this?.  If you are in Tennessee call the Gov’s office. Call the Parents and the school.  If you are in another state, email or call the Tennessee’s Gov’s office.

Here is the problem.  We have been sitting back and allowing the LIBERAL SCHOOL SYSTEM TO PERSECUTE OUR CHILDREN a little at a time.  It is time for Christians to rise up and make noise.  Lot’s of noise.  We will not be Persecuted and we will not allow it to be done to our Children and Grandchildren.  Speak out.

How about in our local schools, Has Persecution started yet?.  Don’t let it happen here.  Our children have the same Freedoms that we do, the Freedoms granted in our Constitution.  Help them stand up for their rights.  SPEAK OUT, WRITE.

SILENT NO MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MEDITATION OF THE DAY-THE QUEENSHIP OF MARY

TODAY WE CELEBRATE THE QUEENSHIP OF MARY:

MARY IS QUEEN BECAUSE she is uniquely conformed to her Son, both on the earthly journey and in heavenly glory.  Ephrem the Syrian, Syria’s great saint, said of Mary’s queenship that it derives from her motherhood:  she is Mother of the Lord, of the King of kings (Is 9:1-6) and she points Jesus out to us as our life, our salvation and our hope…

She shares in God’s responsibility for the world and in God’s love for the world…The royalty and kingship of Christ is interwoven with humility, service, and love.  It is above all serving, helping, and loving..

Mary is Queen in her service to God for humanity; she is a Queen of love who lives the gift of herself to God so as to enter into the plan of man’s salvation…She helps us.  She is Queen precisely by loving us, by helping us in our every need; she is our sister, a humble handmaid.

How does Mary exercise this queenship of service and love? By watching over us, her children: the children who turn to her in prayer, to thank her or to ask her for her motherly protection and her heavenly help, perhaps after having lost our way, or when we are oppressed by suffering or anguish because of the sorrowful and harrowing vicissitudes of life.  In serenity or in life’s darkness let us address Mary, entrusting ourselves to her continuous intercession so that she may obtain for us from the Son every grace and mercy we need for our pilgrimage on the highways of the world.

Through the Virgin Mary let us turn with trust to the One who rules the world and holds in his hand the future of the universe..

The title “Queen” is thus a title of trust, joy, and love. And we know that the One who holds a part of the world’s destinies in her hand is good, that she loves us and helps us in our difficulties.   (Pope Benedict XVI)

(A priest told me that Mary knows what is happening to us because the Holy Spirit tells her, and that she intercedes for us even if we do not ask.  But truly, I ask, what better than having Jesus’s mother praying to her Son along with us?  What good Son refuses his mother’s request?  That is why we ask help from Mary)

PRAYER;  O GOD, BY THE FRUITFUL virginity of Blessed Mary, you have given to the human race the reward of eternal life. Grant, we beseech you, that through the intercession of the mother of the AUTHOR OF LIFE, the Church may become the mother of many children who will take their place before your throne to sing your praises for all eternity, through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen..

SAINT POPE PIUS X TODAY WE REMEMBER HIM BECAUSE

SAINT PIUS X UNDERSTOOD THAT A LIFE LIVED IN THE TRUTH OF THE FAITH TAKES ENDURING ROOT ONLY IN THE COMMUNITY OF WORSHIP.  HIS VISION FOR THE CHURCH INCLUDED A STRONG EMPHASIS ON LITURGICAL RENEWAL.  HIS WORK TO OPEN THE EUCHARIST MORE WIDELY TO THE FAITHFUL, ESPECIALLY TO CHILDREN, WAS ONE OF HIS ENDURING GIFTS TO THE CHURCH.  (He was born Giuseppe Sarto in Riese, Italy, of poor, hardworking parents.  Before his election as pontiff in 1903, he labored unceasingly as a parish chaplain, the bishop and then Patriarch of Venice to awaken the hearts of the people. He allowed children to make their First Communion at age 7 and allowed people to receive Communion regularly. Many miraculous cures were attributed to this “pope of the Eucharist” during his lifetime.  He died in1914.)

(I WOULD FEED MY PEOPLE WITH FINEST WHEAT AND FILL THEM WITH HONEY FROM THE ROCK. (PS 81:17)

GOD MADE HIM perpetual in his office as Pope when he bestowed on him the priesthood of his people;  He established him in honor and crowned him with lofty majesty.  He gave to him his laws, and authority to prescribe and to judge; To teach the precepts to his people, and the ritual to the descendants of Israel.  (Sirach 45;7,17)

PRAYER:   GOD OF MAJESTY and glory, we give you thanks for your presence in our midst as we gather day by day to praise your holy name.  Through the intercession of Saint Pius X, may we worship you always in spirit and in truth as we seek to grow into one in Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord, in whose name we make our prayer.

WHAT MOVED THE WOMAN TO JESUS

WE ARE UNITED TO CHRIST, WE ARE ONE, AND IT IS WHEN HIS PASSION BECOMES REAL TO US, THROUGH EXPERIENCE AND LOVE, THAT WE GROW AWARE OF HIS PRESENCE IN US. But for this presence of Christ, his living in us, his actually being our life, we could not bear the things which have actually happened to some, indeed to many, and which are more then a threat to everyone.  We can bear them for one reason only, because Christ, who is identified with us, who is in us, has already suffered and overcome everything that we shall suffer, or ever can suffer.

We cannot shed a tear, but that tear has already blinded the eyes of Christ.  We cannot be without tears, but that constriction of the heart has constricted his heart.  He has known all and every kind of fear that we know, and there is no possible loneliness, no agony of separation, but it is Christ’s; indeed, not one of us can die, but it is Christ dying.  And Christ, who faces all these things in our lives, has overcome them all and has sanctified them by his limitless love.  His love made every moment of his Passion redeeming and healing and life-fiving, and this love, this Christ-love, is ours, just as much as his suffering is.

We are now beginning in very earnest to experience the contemplation which consists in suffering with Christ, and the way to sanctify it is not so much to suffer with him as to ask him to let us realize that he it is who suffers in us.  For, this understood, we cannot help abandoning our will to his completely, and letting him suffer in us in HIS WAY, and his way is the way of love.  Complete though it is, in his grief there is no bitterness; and what seems to be frustration and waste is not, it is fruitful; this is because every moment of his Passion is informed by love.

Our work is to love too, to love always, to love everyone, and to love to the end.

PRAYER;

OH HELP US, LORD; each hour of need,

Thy heav’nly succor give:

Help us in thought, and word, and deed,

Each hour on earth we live.

————

O, help us, Jesus, from on high;

We know no help but thee:

O help us so to live and dies

As thine in heav’n to be.

(song, no author)

HAVE PITY ON ME, LORD, SON OF DAVID!

AT THAT TIME, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, “Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon.”  But Jesus did not say a word in answer to her,  Jesus’ disciples came and asked him, “Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us.”  He said in reply, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”  But the woman came and did Jesus homage, saying, “Lord, help me.”  He said in reply, “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.”  She said, “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters.”  Then Jesus said to her in reply, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.”  And the woman’s daughter was healed from that hour.   The Gospel of the Lord.  (Matthew 15:21-28)

POPE BENEDICT XVI WROTE that faith makes us light, enabling us to escape our own gravity, which drags us down.  The terrible trial of a chronically ill child could have wrecked the Canaanite woman’s spirit, weighing her down with despondency and defeat.  But faith lifts her from the heaviness of hopelessness and carries her to the “holy mountain” who is Christ. The promise proclaimed by Saint Paul–that God desires to have mercy on all–moves the woman beyond the burden of fatalism and doubt.  Before the Answer who is Christ she will not take no for an answer.  Even Christ’s silence does not dissuade her.  Instead, it serves to steel her belief, showing her a new tack by which to beg for what God is eager to give her. “My God, your silence replies better than the many fervors of my love for you: (Marthe Robin).

(It seems to me this whole Gospel and the persistence is about FAITH. Does anyone else see that?)

PRAYER:   O GOD, WHO have prepared for those who love you good things which no eye can see, fill our hearts, we pray, with the warmth of your love, so that, loving you in all things and above all things, we may attain your promises, which surpass every human desire.  Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, and God, for ever and ever.

Note:  Tomorrow -MEDITATION of the Day:  WHAT MOVED THE WOMAN TO JESUS

MARY VISITS ELIZABETH

MARY SET OUT AND traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.  When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Hol spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.   And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?  For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.  Blessed are you whop believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”

And Mary said:

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.  From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me and holy is his Name.  He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of His arm, and has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly.  He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.  He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children forever.”

MARY remained with her about three months and then returned to her home. THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD. according to Luke 1:30-56.

(think about this…Mary was barely pregnant, yet Elizabeth’s son John knew that Mary’s baby was the Lord.  How could this be if the fetus is nothing but tissue as some would say to justify abortion.  One cannot be a Christian, believe the New Testament Gospels and still justify abortion.  It is time that Abortion is called murder, plain and simple.)

PRAYER:  INTERCESSIONS:  On this day when Mary has entered into glory, let us bless Jesus Christ our Savior:

R: GLORY TO YOU, O LORD!

Through Mary, ARK OF THE COVENANT, you came to dwell among us:  today she swells with you.  R

Through Mary, the mirror of grace, you came to reveal to us the Father:  today she contemplates his splendor. R

Through Mary, the gate of heaven, you came to crown our hope with fulfillment:  today she goes before us into your kingdom.:R

MAY THE GOD OF PEACE HIMSELF MAKE US PERFECTLY HOLY AND MAY WE ENTIRELY, SPIRIT, SOUL, AND BODY, BE PRESERVED BLAMELESS FOR THE COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. AMEN.
