FRIDAY, AUG. 15, THE CHURCH CELEBRATES THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, REJOICING BECAUSE HER BODY WAS LIFTED UP INTO HEAVEN UPON HER DEATH.
Come, let us rejoice with the angels in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
ADORN YOURSELF WITH GRANDEUR AND MAJESTY, AND ARRAY YOURSELF WITH GLORY AND SPLENDOR. (Jb 40:10)
POPE BENEDICT XVI WROTE THAT “precisely because Mary is with God and in God, she is very close to each one of us. While she lived on this earth she could only be close to a few people. Being in God, who is actually ‘within’ all of us, Mary shares in this closeness of God.” Our Lady “knows our hearts, can hear our prayers, can help us with her motherly kindness. She always listens to us and, being Mother of the Son, participates in the power of the Son and in his goodness. We can always entrust the whole of our lives to this Mother.”
The Blessed Mother’s birth into heaven generates in us “an ever new capacity to await God’s future” (John Paul II)
“Mary lifted herself up to such lofty heights of heaven that the Word reached down from this highest pinnacle of heaven and took her in” (Ambrose Autpert, d784)
Through the power of his Resurrection, Christ has adorned Mary with the robe of his own grandeur and majesty and arrayed her with glory and splendor. These garments of salvation are the revelation and crown of the holiness with which she lived her life on earth.(Magnificat)
THAT WHICH IS corruptible must clothe itself with incorruptibility, and that which is mortal must clothe itself with immortality. And when this which is corruptible clothes itself with incorruptibility and this which is mortal clothes itself with immortality, then the word that is written shall come about: “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY.” (1 Corinthians 15:53-54)
A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve starts. (Rv 12:1)
BLESSED ARE YOU, O GOD, in the Virgin Mary. Through her, your Son came into the world. Through him, she entered into the new world of your glory. Come and sow in our bodies the gift of eternal life so that one day we may enter with her into your kingdom through Christ, your Son and Son of Mary, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one god, for ever and ever. Amen
