It has pleased ALMIGHTY GOD to prolong our national life another year, defending us with his guardian care against unfriendly designs from abroad, and vouchsafing to us in his mercy many and signal victories ove the enemy, who is of our own household. It has also pleased our heavenly Father to favor as well our citizens in their homes as our soldiers in their camps, and our sailors on the rivers and seas, with unusual health. He has largely augmented our free population by emancipation and by immigration, while he has opened to us new sources of wealth, and has crowned the labor of our working-men in every department of industry with abundant rewards. Moreover, he has been pleased to animate and inspire our minds and hearts with fortitude, courage, and resolution sufficient for the great trial of civil war into which we have been brought by our adherence as a nation to the cause of freedom and humanity, and to afford to us reasonable hopes of an ultimate and happy deliverance from all our dangers and afflictions.
Now, therefore, I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, do hereby appoint and set apart the last Thursday in November next as a day which I desire to be observed by all my fellow-citizens, wherever they may be then, as a day of thanksgiving and praise to ALMIGHTY GOD, the beneficent CREATOR and RULER of the Universe. And I do further recommend to my fellow-citizens aforesaid, that on that occasion they do reverently humble themselves in the dust, and from thence offer up penitent and fervent prayers and supplications to the great Disposer of events for a return of the inestimable blessings of peace, union, and harmony throughout the land which it has pleased him to assign as a dwelling-place for ourselves and for our posterity throughout all generations.
by: ABRAHAM LINCOLN, (died 1865) 16th President.
be sure to read the last paragraph. He believed God gave us this country to live in, just think. Now, would they read this in the Senate or House in this day and age? Sadly, they would not be able to read it in school now, would they?
The debt of gratitude we owe for God’s faithful love can be repaid only in a tow-sided coin: turning to God in thanksgiving and doing for others what has been done for us.
I thank you, Lord, with all my heart,
you have heard the words of my mouth
In the presence of the angels I will bless you.
I will adore before your hold temple.

I thank you for your faithfulness and love
which excel all we ever knew of you.
On the day I called, you answered;
you increased the strength of my soul/

All earth’s kings shall thank you
when they hear the words of your mouth.
They shall sing of the Lord’s ways:
“How great is the glory of the Lord.!”

Glory to the Father, the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen, Alleluia!

I read this information when I received a request for a donation from CRS, and since they operate because of donations, I pay attention and donate occasionally. Here is the information everyone should know:
1. CRS serves people in 91 countries overseas based on their needs, not their religion, race or nationality.
2. CRS is devoted to preserving the sacredness and dignity of all human life.
3. CRS has been serving the poor for more than 70 years.
4. CRS is very efficient: 93 percent of our expenditures go directly to help poor people overseas.
5. CRS needs you to help us reach more than 150 million people who are desperate for life’s basic necessities.

I have read that CRS has supplies stored all over the world in case of emergencies. They were in Haiti before the last disaster, helping people recover from an earthquake.
I am always totally amazed at what CRS is able to do with donations. How much more efficient than the Governments of the world.

One Sunday after Mass, I approached a woman whose husband had died to offer my condolences. she proceeded to describe, in loving detail, her husband’s final hours: how she had stayed by his side in prayer and held him in her arms for a long while after his death. She spoke with great emotion and, when I looked to my side, I was startled to see my eleven-year-old daughter Lily listening intently. My first instinct was a desire to shield her from the powerful emotions she was witnessing. I worried that Lily might be overwhelmed by the woman’s sorrow, and too immature to sense her underlying joy at having loved her husband to the end.
When we talked later I could see that, without my planning it, something beautiful had happened: Lily had been moved by the widow’s words. A few days later she was given an assignment to write about and illustrate an act of kindness. Without hesitation, she described the woman holding her deceased husband as having reminded her of Mary holding Jesus after the crucifixion, and drew a diptych with the Pieta’ on one side and the widow holding her husband on the other.
My human instinct to shield my daughter from sorrow might have deprived her of an encounter that revealed something a mere discussion of love and death never could. MAY I TRUST LESS IN MY OWN STRATEGIES AND MORE IN GOD’S CAPACITY TO REVEAL HIMSELF TO MY CHILDREN IN THE REALITY OF THEIR DAILY LIVES.
Rachel Oberman lives in Brooklyn with her husband and five daughters. She is an adjunct professor of English at New York City College of Technology.
My thoughts after reading this…..out of the mouth of babes.. wow, God works wonders in our and our children’s lives. LET GO AND LET GOD seems to apply. What do you think?
I also have another thought. What if this husband had decided to opt out of life early by committing assisted suicide? Or what if the wife had decided he should die early by assisting him to die? How much love would both she and her husband lost? What comfort would she have missed had he died early? What would Lily have missed had the woman talked about assisted suicide? Your thoughts?

The Republicans have taken the US House and Senate, Goodbye Harry Reid.
I say good has triumphed because at least the candidate we in Maine sent to the House is Pro Life and Pro Traditional marriage and a very good man. Our Gov. remains and is also Pro Life and Pro marriage. I trust that a good many of the new Congressmen and Women will be pro life and pro marriage. Perhaps they will also be pro Constitution and we may get our Country back. Pray for a return to Religious Freedom, which we are loosing rapidly.
I know that their are a lot of important decisions they have to make and get done, but if we don’t get our country back on the side of Good, not Evil, we will be lost.
But, they have a lot to do in a very short (two Years) time.

Prayer: May the eyes of our hearts be enlightened, that we may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones. Amen.
