TURN YOUR EYES OF MERCY TOWARD ME: by Rachel Oberman-Magnificat
MERCY DOES not come easily to me, as it frequently contradicts my desire for human justice. As a wife and mother, I have often felt myself to be deficient in this virtue. I asked a friend whom I consider to be merciful how one acquires a greater fund of mercy. She said that by discerning God’s mercy in our own lives we become able to bestow it more freely on others. This stumped me at first, as I tend to take for granted God’s mercy, placing more emphasis on the places where my sense of justice is offended.
That week, in fact, I was very angry at my husband. I knew I was acting unreasonably yet I clung to my resentment. I was looking for God’s mercy but finding instead only reasons to be aggrieved. I said something rude, but instead of reacting, my husband said nothing. He looked at me with a tenderness that I recognized for the first time as God’s mercy in my life. He said that I looked tired and asked if he could help. I felt that he was looking at me as God does, accepting my limits and loving me nonetheless. I was filled with a new awareness of a gift freely given and I understood for perhaps the first time that I need mercy at precisely the moments when I feel most self-righteous. Seeing God’s mercy in my husband’s eyes increases my desire to look on others with that same tender gaze. (Rachel Oberman lives in Brooklyn with her husband and five daughters. She is an adjunct professor of English at New York City College of Technology.)
God, merciful Father, in Your Son, Jesus Christ, You have revealed Your love and poured it out upon us in the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. We entrust to You today the destiny of the world and of every man and woman.
Bend down to us sinners, heal our weakness, conquer all evil, and grant that all the peoples of the earth may experience Your mercy. In You, the Triune God, may they ever find the source of hope. Eternal Father, by the Passion and Resurrection of Your Son, have mercy on us and upon the world! Amen. (Pope John Paul, II)____________________________________________________________________________ “On one occasion, I heard Jesus say these words to me: ‘My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and a shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners.(St. Faustina) I am sorry I did not publish this Sunday, but If you go to the Divine Mercy site:

FACT: OUR MONEY STATES: “IN GOD WE TRUST”
FACT: THE GENERATION that fought the 2nd World Was is called “THE GREATEST GENERATION” and they were so grateful to God for winning the war that they added: “UNDER GOD” to the Pledge of Allegiance in the 50’s
FACT; FACING EAST on the top of the Washington Monument is inscribed “LAUS DEO” or “PRAISE BE TO GOD” this was inscribed in 1884 only a short time after the Constitution was written and the Bill of Rights added.
FACT; in the 1st World War, the Germans and the Allies declared a truce that lasted all through Christmas Eve.
FACT; if one were to search hard enough, one would find a pole done in the 40’s or 50’s that stated that 80percent of Americans said they were Christian.
FACT; THE Puritan’s came here to get away from Religious Persecution, which indicates they were religious.
FACT; THE THREE SHIPS THAT SAILED into Jamestown were named after Saints.
FACT;TEXT OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE in 1776; …………………………….”THE SEPARATE AND EQUAL STATION TO WHICH THE LAWS OF NATURE AND OF NATURE’S GOD ENTITLE THEM,…etc.
There are plenty more facts but that seems to lead to only one conclusion:
CONCLUSION: THIS COUNTRY WAS founded on the Christian Principles of Love, Hope, Forgiveness, Respect and this was carried forward at least until “Under God” was added to the Pledge in the 1950’s.
Opinion: When I read the book “DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA” in the 1980’s I had no idea that Progressivism was designed to deny generations of children the history of the founding of this Country, that actually made this Country unique. The fact that ” PRAISE BE TO GOD” is on top of the Washington Monument facing East and was placed there in 1884 would seem to back up the fact that this country was based on Christian Principles. My opinion only based on the conclusion above.
I don’t really understand why anyone would object to the Christian Principles taught by Christ Himself: Love, forgiveness, hope, respect. And the 10 Commandments which require Respect, Love, and Peace. And the Commandment Jesus gave to His Disciples : “Love God, Love your neighbor as yourself. The question is why?
“FAITH IN THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS says that there is a future for every human being; the cry for unending life which is a part of the person is indeed answered. Through Jesus we do know ‘the room where exiled love lays down its victory’. He himself is this place, and he calls us to be with him and in dependence on him. He calls us to keep this place open within the world so that he, the exiled love, may reappear over and over in the world…GOD EXISTS: that is the real message of Easter. Anyone who even begins to grasp what this means also knows what it means to be redeemed.” (Pope Benedict XVI)
(John 20:24-31) THOMAS (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “WE HAVE SEEN THE LORD.” but he said to them “UNLESS I SEE THE MARK OF THE NAILS IN HIS HANDS, AND PUT MY HAND IN HIS SIDE, I WILL NOT BELIEVE.”
A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “PEACE BE WITH YOU.” then he said to Thomas, “PUT YOUR FINGER HERE AND SEE MY HANDS. REACH OUT YOUR HAND AND PUT IT IN MY SIDE. DO NOT DOUBT BUT BELIEVE.” Thomas answered him, “MY LORD AND MY GOD!” Jesus said to him, “HAVE YOU BELIEVED BECAUSE YOU HAVE SEEN ME? BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN AND YET HAVE COME TO BELIEVE.”
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you MAY HAVE LIFE IN HIS NAME.
THE MARK OF THE NAIL IS STILL THERE!
HE IS RISEN!!!!!!!! REJOICE
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

HE HAS FORGIVEN YOU ALL YOUR SINS: Christ has utterly wiped out the damning evidence of broken laws and commandments which always hung over our heads, and has completely annulled it by nailing it over His own head on the Cross. And then, having disarmed all the powers ranged against us, HE exposed them–shattered, empty, and defeated–in HIS final glorious triumphant act. (Colossians 2:13b-15)
When we were younger we used to try to be silent from 12 noon to 3PM on Good Friday. Why, that is when Jesus was nailed to the cross until he died at 3PM. TRY IT, IT IS NOT EASY TO BE SILENT FOR 3 HRS. IF YOU LIVE NEAR A CATHOLIC CHURCH, CHECK IT OUT TO FIND OUT IF THEY ARE HAVING “THE STATIONS OF THE CROSS” AT 3PM. MOST DO, IF THEY CAN. It is interesting and heart breaking to see and listen to what Jesus went through in the14 stations as the people follow what HE went through. You don’t have to be Catholic to appreciate Christ’s suffering and us remembering that HE died for us.
“Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, his mother’s sister Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala.” (Jn 19:25)
PRAY THE STATIONS OF THE CROSS TODAY. ASK FOR THE INTERCESSION OF MARY, THE MOTHER OF OUR LORD JESUS.
