AND JABEZ CALLED ON THE GOD OF ISRAEL SAYING, “OH, THAT YOU WOULD BLESS ME INDEED, AND ENLARGE MY TERRITORY, THAT YOUR HAND WOULD BE WITH ME, AND THAT YOU WOULD KEEP ME FROM EVIL, THAT I MAY NOT CAUSE PAIN.” SO GOD GRANTED HIM WHAT HE REQUESTED.
It all seems very clear cut except: My Territory, what does that mean???
This book is written by “Bruce Wilkinson”. the following is from THE PRAYER OF JABEZ DEVOTIONAL. “Not long ago I heard from a woman named Shannon in Arkansas who had started praying the Jabez prayer. “I’ve been given the opportunity to witness to more nonbelievers and to simply help more people in distress than at any time since I first became a Christian,” she wrote. Her letter made it clear that she still held the same job, lived in the same family, and pretty much went through the same daily routines. But somehow her life had changed–so much so that she signed off: ‘I need to start keeping a journal of what is happening. I am sure even I would be surprised.'”
Shannon is reaching for new territory in her life, and God is answering. You might be wondering what “territory” would mean in your case. Would it mean you have to sign up for more work at church? Start preaching from a street corner? Go to Zanzibar as an evangelist? You may not sense any insight into how to pray or what to expect.
If you are asking this question today, the answer is simple and startling. Your territory is the whole world. Jesus said, “Go into all the world and pr3each…” You don’t have to worry then if you’re praying or desiring something God doesn’t want. It is His will to touch the whole world. And you need more territory to do it……………………”
“I encourage you to ask God to show you an entry point for “the whole world” today. It might be your own beautiful children. It might be a needy person in your neighborhood or at work. It might be someone from another culture–across the street or on the other side of the globe. It might be a whole nation.”
“How you reach your “whole world” is likely to be entirely unique to you. Soon after Glenda, a San Diego children’s writer, starting asking God to expend her borders, she got a teaching job with the institute of Children’s Literature. “God has blessed me indeed!” she told me. “For me, writing for children is a way of loving them with words.”
“look again at the reports from Shannon and Glenda. I see two key words. For Shannon, it is opportunity. She’s still faithfully living her life in Arkansas, but she’s noticing new opportunities…conversations, contacts, actions that pop up during her day. For Glenda, I see the word LOVE. Her writing and teaching gifts are an expression of a central passion in her life–loving kids.”
“If you’re not sure where your larger territory is today, ask yourself two simple questions: 1.WHAT is my overlooked opportunity? 2.WHAT is my enduring passion?”
“Open your eyes and look at the fields!” Jesus pleaded. “They are ripe for harvest.” Always, God wants to begin with you NOW. He’s not waiting for you to become someone else before He can use you. He’s not waiting for you to go somewhere else.”
“Your Father knows you intimately, and He has already given you strategic opportunities, passions, interests, and capabilities. These are the starting points for how He will touch the world through you.”
ALONG WITH THE PRAYER START YOUR DAY THIS WAY: “Open my eyes today, Lord, to see the larger life You’re calling me toward.” Then be prepared for more than you asked for or expected.”
