NO INSTANT SOLUTIONS TO SHOOTINGS

IN THIS COUNTRY EVERYONE WANTS INSTANT SOLUTIONS TO EVERYTHING. WELL, IN THE CASE OF THE SCHOOL SHOOTINGS, THERE ARE NONE.

The problem with the anger and hopelessness that causes a person to shoot children in a school has been a long time coming.  If the parents, teachers, governors and congress and especially the news media stood back and too a good look at the reasons surrounding the shootings instead of blaming guns, changes could take place.  Think about this, every person shooting up a school has been full of anger, hurt, and hopelessness.  Does anyone ever ask why?  How many people in that particular school, children included, treated that person rudely, bullied him, made fun of him, treated him without respect, took away his hope?  And I know this happens every day in schools across this country.  Most people cope and move on, some can’t, and the anger boils over.

I suggest every person in every school in this country start living the St. Francis Prayer:

LORD, MAKE ME AN INSTRUMENT OF YOUR PEACE. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.   DIVINE MASTER, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Do you think this would make a difference?  Of course, this would mean this country and our schools would have to allow God to help make a difference.  It’s been over 50 years since we have taken God out of our schools, stopped teaching respect and love, it may take many years to recover, but we could start now, but only if those in charge, parents, teachers, governors, congress, and especially the news media would admit it’s not guns causing the problems, it’s no RESPECT, LOVE, CONSIDERATION AND HOPE.

More in my next blog.  The how too.
