THE CHURCH, MATER DRAMATIS

by Anthony Esolen

THE DRAMA OF FREEDOM

If we are only dust, or brutes, if we have no free choice, if the world has no meaning, then life is merely absurd, and drama is impossible.  The Christian message is that we are dust destined for glory or misery; that God is present and at work fully in every millimeter of space and every moment of time; that time is the moving shadow of eternity.

Think of the drama in the Gospels! Peter hauls in the load of fish over the side of his boat, having set out again on the water, and not too happy about it either, at the instance of a stranger, a carpenter.  “Lord,” he says to Jesus, depart from me; I am a wicked man.” And if Peter had insisted, what then?

“Sell all you have, give it to the poor, and come, follow me,” says Jesus to the rich young man, whom he looked upon with love, And the youth walked away, because his possessions possessed him. The camel could not squeeze through the needle’s eye. And if he had stayed, what then?

“Saul, Saul,” cries the Lord to the Pharisee flat on the ground, “why do you persecute me?” And if Saul had justified himself, what then? “Do you have no fear of God or man?” says one of the thieves crucified upon Calvary. “We committed the crimes for which we are punished, but this man was innocent.”  And if his fellow thief had turned to Jesus? “Zacchaeus,” says Jesus to the diminutive tax collector, “I am having supper at your house tonight!” And if the fellow had never climbed the tree?

We are compassed roundabout with so great a play of mysteries!

THE ONLY DRAMA THERE IS

Maybe we can go farther still and say that all drama is a version of THE DRAMA, the one that BEGINS WITH CREATION AND ENDS IN JUDGMENT, WHOSE KING AND CENTER IF THE HEART OF JESUS CHRIST.

…….IN THE END THERE IS ONLY ONE DRAMA-IS, WAS, AND EVER WILL BE.

“GOD IS TRUE”

“And now I commend you to God and to that gracious word of his that can build you up and give you the inheritance among all who are consecrated. “Acts 20:32
From Magnificat: God is true: he has a long memory for his own promises and a short memory for our failures to keep ours. In the gift of his promised Spirit, we find our daily joy.

FAITH-Hebrews 11:1-2; 12:1

“Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen. Because of it the ancients were well attested.
Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us.
“Hold firm and take heart./ Hope in the Lord!” Ps 27:14

I want to add, you can’t change the past, it is over, if you did something wrong, ask forgiveness and apologize to whom you wronged, and forget it. If you are worried about the future, don’t. Jesus said God would take care of the future, and you have no control. Enjoy and be grateful for today and thank God every day for what he has given you and the good people in your life.

WE ARE GOD’S CATS, LET’S BE HIS DOGS…………..

From Catholic Digest, Author, Tom Hoopes. “I have a theory: God gave us cats to show us the stupid ways we act toward him, and God gave us dogs to demonstrate how he really wants us to treat him……………Dogs treat their masters the way the saints treat God. Cats treat their owners—well, like I treat God……………..

Compare them side by side, and it always comes out the same: My dog is obedient. My cat expects me to obey her. My dog is humble, accepting herself as she is. My cat is a narcissist, obsessively grooming herself.

My dog is patient, waiting all day if necessary for what she wants. My cat is haughty, walking away in a huff is you fail to meet her exacting demands.

I am the center of my dog’s world. My cat is the center of a world that includes me somewhere at the fringes.

So here is my prayer: ‘Lord, forgive me for behaving like my cat. Forgive me for treating you like I own you. Grant me a faith that is humble and obedient, a hope that trusts in you to do good things for me, and a love that revolves around you and your will. Lord, grant me the grace to be more like my dog!”

SUIT AGAINST OUR NATIONAL MOTTO, “In God We Trust,”

Letter from ACLJ:  “The angry atheist Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) has just filed a federal lawsuit against the United States government claiming that our National Motto, “In God We Trust,” should be erased from our currency.  Their arguments–in an absurd 112-page complaint–range from the strange to the ridiculous. For instance an atheist a coin collector, after collecting for 40 years, now feels she can’t freely practice her hobby anymore because it’s just so offensive to her to read “In God We Trust” on our coins. Plus, when she travels to other countries, she feels she’s being force to “proselytize” for the Christian view.

Such a claim is almost unbelievable. Yet this lawsuit has to be taken seriously because all it takes is ONE WIN by the atheists and our religious liberties begin to disintegrate. “

What I do not understand is if a person does not believe in God, then why is it a problem seeing our motto. What would they like on our coins, since this country was founded specifically for religious freedom for Christian and Puritans.

What can you do? Go on line and join ACLJ-American Center for Law & Justice. Read who they are and how they are protecting our religious freedom by representing us in these court cases. Add their info to your Face Book page, and inform your friends.

PSALM 139, PART OF A PRAYER IN MAGNIFICAT

Psalm 139  ……………………”For it was you who created my being, knit me together in my mother’s womb. I thank you for the wonder of my being, for the wonders of all your creation.  Already you knew my soul, my body held no secret from you when I was being fashioned in secret and molded in the depths of the earth. To me, how mysterious your thoughts, the sum of them not to be numbered! If I count them, they are more than the sand; to finish, I must be eternal, like you………………”

AFTER READING THIS, HOW COULD ANY CHRISTIAN WHO BELIEVES THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD, BELIEVE ABORTION IS NOT MURDER. PRAY FOR GOD’S UNBORN CHILDREN, SPEND SOME QUIET TIME WITH OUR LORD.

PUT GOD BACK IN OUR SCHOOLS

I have thinking about this for a couple of years and finally may get a chance to do something.

I keep seeing things on face book about putting God back in our schools, but I never see anyone doing anything. I’m not sure how effective I will be but if I just get something started it will be worthwhile.

Now, the first law passed in DC simply said that teachers could not lead organized prayers nor tell kids when they had to pray. That was why they had a few minutes of silence in the morning which I guess they still do some places.  However, that law did not prohibit talking about God in School, did not prohibit students praying and certainly did not prohibit the Pledge.

I am going to first download the actual first law passed and hopefully post at least the main part.

Then I am going to check in my state, Maine, and see if any other laws were passed.

I am also going to do the same in DC.

I am wondering if there are any other laws regarding God in schools or if the rest is just bull to fit some ones agenda.

Does anyone know of anyone or group that is doing this? If so please let me know so I can get in touch.

We need God back in the schools, Children have the right to pray. They need to know about Christianity. The improvements Christianity has brought to the world. They need to learn again about respect, morals, right and wrong and evil and good. If we want bullying and killings to stop, we need to teach our children self-respect, self control and consequences.

Think about this. 95% of Catholic School children go to college. These schools require teaching in these areas.

It really seems as if there are people in this country that hate our kids. Our kids are unhappy and have no hope, we Christians know the way, we need to do something.
